Dr. Rosa E. Coronado has served in education since 1996 spanning a variety of roles including site, district and county office positions.  She received her Bachelor of Arts in U. S. History with a minor in Women’s Studies (1995) and a Master of Arts in Urban High School Leadership (2002) from the San Jose State University.  Coronado began her doctoral studies at UC Berkeley in 2003 when she was accepted to the Joint Doctoral Program for Educational Leadership and completed her Ed.D. in 2013 in Educational Leadership for Social Justice at the California State University East Bay.  

She served as Sr. Director for Academic Employee Relations with San Jose State University from February 2021 to April 2023. Prior to that Dr. Coronado worked as Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources for the Salinas Union High School District and as an Assistant Superintendent for Administrative Services for the San Benito County Office of Education where she was responsible various programs and projects including Human Resources, Public Relations, Communications, and (in coordination with the Educational Services Department) State and Federal Programs. Previously, she served as the Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources (2013-2016) and Director II for the Migrant Education Program Region XVI (2006-2013) at Monterey County Office of Education (MCOE). 

Dr. Coronado is an active member of the Association of California Superintendents and Administrators (ACSA) and is active with the California Association of Latino Superintendents and Administrators (CALSA), Association of Latino Administrators and Superintendents (ALAS), the California Association of African-American Superintendents and Administrators (CAAASA) and the California Association of Asian American Pacific Islander Leaders (CAAAPIL). 

In May 2013 she received the ACSA Region 10 Central (County) Office Administrator of the Year and in 2109 the Personnel/Human Resources Administrator of the Year award.  She has also served as the Equity Committee Member for ACSA Region 10 as well as a Mentor in the CALSA Mentoring Program.

Dr. Coronado was chair of the California Department of Education (CDE) Migrant Education Program Regional Directors’ Council (July 2011-February 2013), the CDE representative for Solutions for Out of School Youth (2010-2013) and chair of the CDE Regional Directors’ Council Committee for Migrant Out of School Youth (2007-2013).  

She has also served as adjunct faculty for the San Jose State University College of Education in the Master’s in Collaborative Leadership Program, in 2005, 2006, and 2017.

Dr. Coronado was a migrant child herself growing up in the Pajaro Valley in California. She is committed to giving back to her community by ensuring her work is focused on the educational equity and advancement of all children.
