Hoover Immersion Programs

Hoover is the only SFUSD middle school to offer dual immersion in Spanish and Chinese!

Spanish Immersion

This pathway develops students’ writing, reading, listening, and speaking skills in Spanish.   Spanish immersion students enroll in Spanish Language Arts in 6-7 grade and Social Studies taught in Spanish in 6-8 grade.  

 

To enroll in this pathway, students must meet one of the following requirements:

  • General Ed students who passed 6th grade Spanish Immersion placement test at the Educational Placement Center
  • K-5 Spanish Biliteracy students rising to 6th grade
  • K-5 Spanish Dual Language Immersion pathway students rising to 6th grade

Chinese Immersion

This pathway develops students’ writing, reading, listening, and speaking skills in Chinese.  Students take Cantonese Language Arts in grades 6-7 and Social Studies in Cantonese grades 6-8.  Mandarin (speaking and listening skills) is added to all grade levels.

To enroll in this pathway, students must demonstrate grade level proficiency in the assessment given by the EPC.  Additionally, K-5 Chinese Biliteracy and Dual Language Immersion pathway students rising to 6th grade may enroll.
