Dear Mission High School Community,

First Day of School for Students: Monday, August 16th

New Bell Schedule: Mission High School Bell Schedule 2021-2022

Welcome to the 2021 - 2022 school year!  I am so grateful for the opportunity to return to in-person learning and begin to build this new experience together. We have spent over 500 days away from campus and the transition back to school will require flexibility and strong family/school partnership.

First and foremost, welcome to the class of 2025! We are excited you’re here. Our school is committed to honoring each and every student. Although the remote schooling was hard on many of us, we learned a lot about how to be better educators to your student. We are excited to implement school-wide and classroom strategies that are even more personalized and incorporate more technology. We will continue to have a Care Team so that we are ready to support all students and families throughout the school year.

Many of you have questions about our campus safety practices and policies.  SFUSD closely follows the guidance of the San Francisco Department of Public Health (SFDPH). Conditions, and therefore information, can change with great frequency. Mission High School 9th grade families are invited to a virtual ninth grade orientation next Wednesday (8/10) at 5pm.

Here is a Zoom link to the 9th grade orientation:

As for our home at the MHS campus, the SFUSD Facilities team has spent the summer repairing, updating and testing our HVAC system. Portable air filters will be installed in classrooms lacking natural ventilation.

All students, faculty, staff and visitors will be required to wear a mask over their nose and mouth at all times while indoors, regardless of vaccination status. Vaccinated students may remove their mask outdoors. Unvaccinated students must wear masks both indoors and outdoors.

In an effort to be responsive to the vast and varied needs of families, I am asking you to Write Your Health and Safety Questions Here. You may also email any member of our admin team. Please enter any questions you would like to see answered by next Friday, 8/6. We likely do not have all of the answers yet, but we will work hard to find them!

For families who seek to continue virtual and/or independent coursework, SFUSD is accepting applications to a new online learning program hosted by Independence High School. MHS will not be able to accommodate online learners and students will be required to transfer. For more information, please visit sfusd.edu/onlinelearningprogram

If you are not signed up for ParentVUE, please do so before the first day of school.  ParentVUE is our primary communication tool and our goal is 100% family participation. If you’re stuck, please contact Valerie Forero (forerov@sfusd.edu) or Yadira Cabrera (cabreram@sfusd.edu) for onboarding support.

Soon, I will send out a thorough Welcome Back letter with information about schedules, food service, required beginning of the year forms and instructions for the first day.

Here’s to new beginnings.

Warmly,
Pirette McKamey, Principal
