All Public Schools (Grades PreK-12) Link to this section Early Education Schools There is a separate application process for the Infants, Toddlers, and PreK programs; however, the Transitional Kindergarten program (offered at some early education schools) does participate in SFUSD's student assignment process. Elementary Schools There is a total of 72 elementary schools, 58 of them are attendance area schools; the other 14 are citywide schools. There is no guarantee that a student will be assigned to his/her attendance area school or any particular citywide school. Middle Schools There is a total of 13 middle schools. Middle schools do not have attendance areas, but there is an elementary-to-middle feeder system. There is no guarantee that a student will be assigned to his/her feeder middle school or any particular middle school. High Schools There are 15 high schools. High schools do not have attendance areas nor a feeder school system. There is no guarantee that a student will be assigned to any particular high school. There are additional application requirements for Lowell and Ruth Asawa. Alternative and County High Schools The Educational Placement Center does not enroll students in alternative or county high schools. Students are referred to alternative high schools through the SFUSD Office of Pupil Services. These schools are excluded from the SFUSD general application.
