Sign In/Out

Students arrive to program once school is out. Students get signed in and have a supper; a full meal. Recommended pick up is after 5:30PM, so enrichment and homework classes are not interrupted. Please sign your student(s) out in the binder when picking up. Latest pick up is 6:30pm.

Only parents, guardians and authorized persons listed on the application may sign out a child. Only persons 18 years of age and older are allowed to sign out a child. Siblings and/or other underage persons may sign out a child only if the Program Manager has a signed written permission note from the parent/guardian on file. Program staff WILL ask for identification if they do not recognize the adult picking up the student.

Supper

Healthy, nutritious supper is a full meal provided by Student Nutrition Services. Students have the option to eat home lunch as well. Supper menu is available on the SFUSD website.

Grocery Giveaway

The Richmond Neighborhood Center offers food programs to help alleviate food insecurity, ease the financial burden of seniors and working adults in the neighborhood, and help families stay in San Francisco.

One way we provide food security to the community is having a grocery giveaway at the elementary schools. Every student, guardian, and staff member at McCoppin may take groceries home. This program is not specifically for people who are low income, it is rather for everyone.

Home Delivered Groceries

Once a week after school program students partner with the Home Delivered Groceries Program of the Richmond Neighborhood Center for Service Learning to deliver groceries to senior citizens and immobile people within walking distance of the school.

Recess

Recess will take place on the schoolyard, if it rains we will be indoors. Students will have sports equipment to play with (balls, hula hoops, jump ropes, etc.) Staff will be supervising the yard and playing games with the students. A first aid kit will always be accessible.

Homework

Homework support is provided for one hour each day from Monday-Thursday, most students do not have homework on Fridays. School supplies will be provided such as pencils, paper, coloring supplies, scissors, etc. Reading books will be provided and students are welcome to read books from home. We are NOT a homework completion program. We provide students with a quiet space and answer any questions that students may have but we cannot guarantee that the student’s homework gets completed daily. Staff will briefly check students’ work and support them throughout homework. Please keep in mind the staff will be working with many students’ during the homework hour. Reviewing your child’s work is highly recommended.

Field Trips

When going on a field trip students will be accompanied by staff at all times, first aid kits will present with each staff, and safety will always be the priority.

Field trips that are a distance of eight blocks or less will be done by walking and families will be notified at least one week in advance.

Field trips that are a distance of nine blocks or more will be done by using Muni and families will be asked for permission via Field Trip Permission Forms if the students are allowed to attend.

Enrichments At Frank McCoppin

MCAP (Multi-Cultural Arts Program)

An Art Enrichment which involves craft projects using tactile materials, ceramics, mosaics, printmaking, drawing, painting, calligraphy, photography, dance, musical instruments, and drama.

Wellness (Sports and Nutrition)

Students learn positive values that revolve around Sports-personship. We focus on having fun instead of winning, giving each other appreciation and shout outs at the end of games. We play different sports and create game
agreements. Students learn about leadership and coaching.

We will implement cooking activities which would follow safe and easy recipes for students. Please ensure that our program has the most updated information regarding your child’s food restrictions. We will play games and do
hands on activities to learn about healthy eating and healthy habits.

Students will also engage in social emotional learning to further support their development when playing and interacting with classmates. We also incorporate activities around self-care and all other related factors to keep them all aware of healthy habits.

STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics)

Students will learn about the Scientific Method and implement it during our projects. Students have “Scientist Notebooks” where they take notes and write down ideas.

Some examples: Students tinker by building marble mazes, use legos to learn about engineering, we use shapes to learn about geometry.
