Renewal Petitions for KIPP Bayview ES and KIPP SF College Prep

On August 4th, 2025, KIPP Bayview Elementary School and KIPP San Francisco College Prepatory submitted renewal petitions to extend their charter to June 2031. The links for the respective submissions are available below:

The initial hearing for both schools was held on September 30, 2025. Staff released the following staff reports in accordance with Cal. Ed. Code §§ 47605 and 47607:

The decision hearing on the renewal extensions will be held by the Board of Education on October 30, 2025 at 6 pm.

SFUSD Staff Report for Dragon Gate Academy - Findings and Recommendations

On June 2, 2025, Dragon Gate Academy submitted a petition to open a new charter school in the city and county of San Francisco. The initial hearing for the charter school was held on July 29, 2025 and the decision hearing was held on August 26, 2025 at 6:30 PM at the regularly scheduled Board of Education meeting.

Charter School Oversight Mission and Purpose Link to this section

Please note that effective November 2023, the SFUSD charter oversight committee is no longer convening.

In September 2018, the Board of Education adopted the SFUSD Charter Schools Oversight Resolution - "In Support of Increased Oversight, Transparency, and Accountability for Charter Schools In Relation to Fiscal, Educational, and Socio-Emotional Impacts on SFUSD Students."

The Resolution established a Charter Schools Oversight Committee that is open to community participation, and which specifically reviews the following:

Demographics of students served at each charter school, disaggregated by subgroup;
Demographics of students who leave each charter school each year disaggregated by subgroup;
Demographics of students retained year to year, by grade-level, at each charter school, disaggregated by subgroup;
Teacher credentialing and “proper assignment" and retention rates at each charter school;
Parent and staff representation in charter school governance;
The reasons for student transfer to SFUSD from charter schools, where applicable;
The provision of services to the charter school’s students with IEPs by the school's Special Education Local Plan Area; and
Investigations of complaints received by SFUSD concerning the charter schools.
