Dear SFUSD Community,

As you may have heard, President Biden signed legislation today that marks Juneteenth as a federal holiday, and Mayor Breed has subsequently declared it a holiday for the City.

We are thrilled that Juneteenth is now an official holiday and will work to make changes to our calendar in future years.

At SFUSD we are actively serving students and families who are counting on us to be open tomorrow. All staff are required to work as scheduled. If there is a family who chooses to keep their child home from an SFUSD summer program, it will be an excused absence.

Juneteenth will be a holiday for SFUSD employees and our students in future years when we have the opportunity to plan accordingly. Thank you for all you do and happy Juneteenth!

Sincerely,
Dr. Matthews
