Announcement Message

Please remember to celebrate safely this holiday season!

COVID-19 exposure and transmission increases anytime different households gather indoors or when there is travel to new environments.

COVID-19 Testing Recommendations

The San Francisco Department of Public Health (SFDPH), recommends that all students and staff get tested for COVID-19 - regardless of vaccination status - 1-2 days before returning to school or work, even if they are asymptomatic.

SFUSD is recommending that staff and students follow the SFDPH testing recommendations. Since this is not a requirement, school sites are not allowed to make their own policies.

In addition to testing prior to returning to school/work, SFDPH also recommends testing 3-5 days after returning from travel as per CDC/CDPH guidelines

  • Depending on when your family or staff returns from travel, testing twice might be a good idea
  • For example, if your family or staff returns from travel on the Sunday before schools starts, it would be a good idea to test once on that Sunday (January 2nd) as well as test once again sometime during the following Wednesday through Friday.

If your student or staff tests positive, please notify your school immediately and follow SFDPH isolation and quarantine guidelines.

COVID-19 Testing Resources

Proactive testing before returning can prevent exposures, outbreaks and unnecessary missed days for SFUSD staff and students. SFUSD strongly encourages staff and students to access COVID-19 tests at any location where it is available throughout San Francisco, which includes but are not limited to:

  • Primary health care providers
  • Community and public testing sites
  • (NEW) Mobile rapid testing sites via Safer Together and SFUSD partnership

Starting January 2 through January 9, SFUSD is partnering with Safer Together to offer mobile rapid testing as staff and students return from the Winter Break, in addition to the Color testing offerings.

  • Safer Together will offer the antigen rapid testing at the school sites below during the week of January 2-9th.
  • Testing will be available to staff, students, and the community.
  • Please use bit.ly/sfusdtesting to register for testing with Safer Together. While Safer Together will be able to provide day of registration support, it is recommended that registration is completed prior to arriving at the testing mobiles.  Please note that if students are registering on the day of testing, parents/guardians of students must be present to complete the registration/consent form.
