SFUSD and SFPD coordinate to support the safety of students and schools. Unless requested for a specific reason or in response to a known security threat, SFPD does not enter SFUSD school property. In an abundance of caution, SFPD has stated that in response to the events in Texas yesterday there is an increased police patrols near city schools, which means they are driving in the vicinity of schools at a greater frequency.
SFUSD has administrative regulations and protocols in place to determine when and how schools may interact with law enforcement. Per SF Board of Education policy, schools may request police assistance on campus when necessary to protect the physical safety of students and staff; as required by law; or when appropriate to address criminal behavior of persons other than students.
