Student learning and classroom stability are our top priority, and a qualified teacher in every classroom is key to improving student outcomes across the District.

SFUSD has now reached a minimum of 92% staffing threshold across all grade levels. As we continue to take meaningful steps to fill every classroom with a qualified teacher, this is an important and positive milestone. After finalizing its student enrollment through the 10-day count, SFUSD will proceed with supplemental hiring.

Supplemental hires refer to additional school-based staff members hired beyond the core or baseline staffing needed to operate schools such as a principal, clerk, and K-12 classroom teachers, who are focused on providing additional enrichment opportunities based on the needs of each school. We remain committed to a hiring process that meets both state requirements and the unique needs of each school community.

What This Means for Your Child’s School:

To ensure we continue providing high-quality education across all schools, this next phase of hiring will follow specific guidelines and timelines. These include:

  • No staff transfers between schools — all positions must be filled without moving current staff from one site to another.
  • New hires from outside the district may only be hired on a temporary contract.
  • Class Size Reduction (CSR) roles are not included in this process at this time.

Before any hiring happens, schools must:

  • Receive approval from the California Department of Education (CDE) for each position
  • Have confirmed funding from their allocated budget

Which Schools Will Be Prioritized?

Schools identified as High Potential Schools will be given the first opportunity to move forward with these new hires.
