What is Inclusive Schools Week?

Inclusive Schools week provides an opportunity for SFUSD educators and community members to teach students about disabilities, and the intersection of disabilities with other categories of identity, like race, gender, class, cultural heritage, language preference and other differences. The week also provides an important opportunity for educators, students and parents to discuss what else needs to be done in order to ensure that their schools continue to improve their ability to successfully educate and include all children.

2025 Theme, Children First

The 2025 theme, "Children First," is rooted in the powerful Maasai greeting, Casserian Engeri, which translates to "And how are the children?" Putting Children First means prioritizing every student's right to learn in an environment that supports their diverse needs, embraces their unique abilities, and fosters a sense of belonging. It means recognizing that when schools are designed to support students with disabilities, they become better places for all learners.

Posters are being delivered to school sites, and more resources can be found on our ISW webpage!

We encourage you to explore the resources on our website, linked below, for celebration ideas for your school!

We would also like to highlight our Thursday, December 11th event: Student Inclusion Summit! The SFUSD Student Inclusion Summit is a special event for SFUSD high school students, with and without disabilities, to come together, celebrate inclusion, build community, and learn from one another about creating more inclusive school environments. This will be held virtually on Zoom- register at this link!

Additional webinars are also being hosted by Urban Collaborative, and are open to staff and families! Tuesday, 12/9 features a special "Spotlight on San Francisco Unified School District" that all are invited to attend to learn more about celebrations hosted annually in our district!
