Announcement Details
Announcement Message
The National Weather Service is predicting warmer temperatures in San Francisco from Tuesday, March 17 through Friday, March 20, with a Moderate (Level 2) risk of heat-related impacts. We are taking extra steps to help keep students and staff safe and comfortable during this time.
What We’re Doing
Beginning Tuesday, we will limit outdoor activities between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM, including recess and PE. When possible, these activities will be moved indoors if it is cooler inside.
How We Can Stay Safe in the Heat
Please help remind children of these simple safety tips:
- Drink plenty of water throughout the day.
- Stay in the shade when outside.
- Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing and a hat when possible.
- Avoid sugary drinks and choose water instead.
- Take breaks if feeling hot or tired.
- Staff will check in with students regularly to make sure everyone is feeling well.
Classrooms will also help keep cool by closing shades and reducing lighting when possible.
Window Safety Reminder
Warmer weather often means open windows. Please help us remember to practice window safety to protect toddlers and small children from falls.
Know the Signs of Heat Illness
If someone shows signs of heat exhaustion or heat stroke (such as dizziness, nausea, confusion, or very high body temperature), they should be moved to a cool, shaded area right away. Heat stroke is a medical emergency—call 911 immediately.
