This past Wednesday members of the CAC, SFUSD and Support for Families participated in SELPA (Special Education Local Plan Area) Legislative Sharing Day. We heard from Senator Ochoa Bogh who authored Senate Bill 1113 which would establish statewide Inclusion and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) standards and training for ALL teachers and administrators. CAC members also spoke to staff in Senator Weiner's office and shared CAC legislative priorities of funding, staffing, mental health and literacy. Our CAC "Leg Day" team has learned a lot about the legislative process and will continue lobbying throughout the month. If you'd like to learn more or join us, send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
May is when the CAC focuses on planning for the next school year. At our May CAC meeting, we will review the special education department budget and service plan which are part of SFUSD's Local Plan for Special Education. The CAC hopes to hear from many families and community members about the special education topics and issues that are most important to them. The information gathered at this meeting will inform SFUSD Special Education and CAC priorities and meeting topics for the coming year. Register for this meeting on our website.
Call for CAC Board Nominations! Have you been thinking of joining the 2022-23 CAC Board? We are looking for nominations to our 2022-2023 executive board and will be voting in our new executive board officers at our May CAC meeting. CAC Board members coordinate monthly meetings, events and advocacy at the district and state level. For more information visit cacspedsf.com or email email@example.com.

PURPOSE OF THE CAC
The purpose of the Community Advisory Committee (CAC) for Special Education is to champion effective special education programs and services and advise the Board of Education on priorities in the Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA).
The State Education Code mandates that each SELPA have a CAC and that a majority of CAC members are parents of students with disabilities.
