Nurse

KAREN TAI

It has been a privilege and one of the most rewarding experiences of my career to work at Chinese Immersion School. We have grown from 80 students to now almost 400 students. I feel that I was one of the fortunate ones to be part of its inception in 2009. It seems like only yesterday that I first started at CIS; my daughter was then in high school and now graduated from Stanford law school.

I look forward to coming to school every day to work with children and their families, as well as our principal, teachers and staff in supporting physical health and social-emotional wellness in the classrooms and school-wide activities.  I am deeply grateful for the generosity of CIS parents’ fundraising in complementing the District’s funding so that the school could expand my role to a full-time position in 2013.  It requires a partnership of the school and the family to raise and nurture a child.  It is thus my hope that every one of our students will be physically, emotionally, socially and academically prepared when they leave CIS.  It truly takes a village!  During my school years, my teachers and the dedicated staff were some of my greatest mentors.

Like some of our staff, I was born in Hong Kong. I then immigrated to Canada, where I received my first degree in nursing from McMaster University, before settling here in the Bay Area. I have always been passionate about working with diverse communities and their children, through first working in the public health department and the inner city schools in Toronto.  This experience inspired me to further my education in public health and later obtain a school nurse credential in California.

In my spare time, my family enjoy travelling and trying different cuisines, especially new seafood dishes.  My goal is to one day reach all seven continents!

I am honored and excited to be part of this community dedicated to the educational success and overall well-being of your child.  I welcome open communication with parents; please feel free to contact me through the district email.
