MAY HY Link to this section
I am the youngest of four and was born and raised in San Francisco. I went to Daniel Webster Elementary School, Francisco Middle School and Galileo Academy of Science and Technology. Furthermore, I went to Central Chinese High School in America five days a week right after regular school. I attended the University of California, Davis and graduated with a BA in Human Development as well as a minor in Education.
I have a passion for teaching and have always wanted to educate young students. I have worked with infants, toddlers and preschool children. I had the wonderful opportunity to work in West Portal Elementary School’s GLO program and as an intern at West Portal Elementary School’s Chinese Immersion Program where I was able to learn and gain many valuable lessons.
I enjoy watching Korean shows and am really interested in the Korean culture. I like to learn new languages. In my free time, I like staying at home, listening to music, watching television and relaxing!
JANET YU Link to this section
Hi, my name is Janet Yu and I am very happy to be at Chinese Immersion School to teach Cantonese. I believe being bilingual will help the children in their future aspirations. I was born and raised in San Francisco and my mother insisted that I go to Chinese school. I’m glad she did because now I love learning languages. In college I double majored in Human Development and Mandarin. Now I can speak three dialects of Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin and Toysan). Before becoming a teacher I worked in after school programs and found myself enjoying the creativity behind teaching and creating lesson plans that were meaningful and fun. I especially enjoy teaching reading and writing. That passion has only grown since then. I hope to continue to make a difference in students’ lives and help them love learning as much as much as I love teaching.
CARA LUN Link to this section
I am Cara Lun, a native Cantonese speaker. I was born and raised in Guangzhou, China. Due to my exceptional academic performances in Chinese literacy, my teachers encouraged me to tutor my classmates. Therefore, I enjoyed the feeling of teaching. When I was a teacher in a Chinese elementary school, I felt honored to be able to teach. From then on, I knew teaching is my life career.
As an educator, I believe every child is capable of learning. Hence, my teaching philosophy is to create a happy and safe environment for my students. I dedicate my time to help children to be actively engaged with school life and enjoy participating in age-appropriate activities with me.
I love to spend time traveling around the world and playing board games together with my family. It is my greatest honor to join the CIS community. I look forward to building a close relationship with you as we work together to ensure your child’s success!
