Dear MLK Community,
Today, our staff received a report of a threat against our school involving one of our students. Out of an abundance of caution, our school implemented safety protocols around 10:15 a.m. this morning while staff investigated and worked with the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD).
The school first entered a HOLD protocol, during which students remained in their classrooms while regular school activities continued.
As the situation developed, the school transitioned to a SECURE protocol, during which students remained inside the building and the perimeter of the campus was secured meaning staff and students may not leave or come onto the campus.
SFPD responded and detained the student identified in the report and another individual. School staff, in consultation with SFPD, determined that it was safe to lift the safety protocols around noon.
All students and staff remained safe, and the school day continued as scheduled.
We are grateful to our school staff for their quick and thoughtful response, as well as to our Violence Interrupters (VIs) for their presence and support throughout the day.
At MLK Middle School, the safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our highest priority. We will continue to follow up and take appropriate steps to support a safe school environment.

親愛的 MLK 校園社群：
今天，本校教職員接獲一則涉及本校某位學生的校園威脅通報。基於謹慎考量，本校於今晨約 10:15 啟動安全應變程序，同時由教職員進行調查並與舊金山警察局（SFPD）合作處理。
校方首先啟動「HOLD」應變程序，期間學生留在各自教室內，校內常規活動照常進行。
隨著事態發展，校方轉為實施「SECURE」應變程序，期間學生留在校舍內，校園周邊區域已實施封鎖，意味著教職員與學生均不得離開或進入校園。
SFPD 隨即出動，並拘留了報告中指認的學生及另一名人士。校方人員經與 SFPD 商議後，判定約於中午時分解除安全應變措施已無安全疑慮。
所有學生與教職員均安然無恙，當日課程亦按原定計畫進行。
我們衷心感謝校方人員迅速且周全的應對，同時也感謝我們的「暴力干預員」（VIs）全天在場並提供支援。
在馬丁·路德·金恩中學，學生與教職員的安全與福祉始終是我們的首要任務。我們將持續跟進並採取適當措施，以維護安全的校園環境。

Estimada comunidad de MLK:
Hoy, nuestro personal ha recibido una denuncia sobre una amenaza contra nuestro centro educativo en la que está implicado uno de nuestros alumnos. Por motivos de precaución, nuestro centro ha puesto en marcha protocolos de seguridad alrededor de las 10:15 de la mañana, mientras el personal investigaba y colaboraba con el Departamento de Policía de San Francisco (SFPD).
En un primer momento, la escuela activó el protocolo HOLD, durante el cual los alumnos permanecieron en sus aulas mientras continuaban las actividades escolares habituales.
A medida que la situación evolucionaba, la escuela pasó al protocolo SECURE, durante el cual los alumnos permanecieron dentro del edificio y se acordonó el perímetro del recinto, lo que impedía que el personal y los alumnos salieran o entraran en él.
El SFPD acudió al lugar y detuvo al alumno identificado en la denuncia, así como a otra persona. El personal del centro, tras consultar con el SFPD, determinó que era seguro levantar los protocolos de seguridad alrededor del mediodía.
Todos los alumnos y el personal se mantuvieron a salvo, y la jornada escolar continuó según lo previsto.
Agradecemos al personal de nuestro centro su respuesta rápida y prudente, así como a nuestros «Interruptores de la Violencia» (VI) por su presencia y apoyo a lo largo de todo el día.
En la Escuela Secundaria MLK, la seguridad y el bienestar de nuestros alumnos y personal siguen siendo nuestra máxima prioridad. Seguiremos realizando un seguimiento y tomando las medidas adecuadas para garantizar un entorno escolar seguro.

Dear MLK Community,
Today, at approximately 1 p.m., our staff received a report that one of our students and another student unaffiliated with our school were involved in a verbal argument with a staff member before both students left campus. The report also indicated that our student had a weapon. It was determined that the report that the student had a weapon was false. However, out of an abundance of caution, our school went into a Secure Protocol while the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) conducted an investigation.
A Secure Protocol is called when there is a threat or hazard outside of the school building. Whether it is due to violence, or criminal activity in the immediate neighborhood, a Secure Protocol uses the security of the physical facility to act as protection. During a Secure Protocol, the perimeter of a campus is secured meaning staff and students may not leave or come onto the campus, and regular activities can continue inside.
All students and staff remained safe, and the school day continued as scheduled.
At approximately 4 p.m., the Secure Protocol was lifted during dismissal. As a precaution, our staff positioned themselves throughout the campus to ensure that students were dismissed safely and that the after-school program could begin safely and as scheduled.
At MLK Middle School, the safety of our students and staff is our highest priority. Please encourage your child to speak with a trusted adult on campus if they hear of any threat to campus safety so that our staff can investigate and take appropriate action.
We will continue to follow up and take steps to ensure that all of our students and staff remain safe.

今天下午1點左右，我校接到報告稱，一名我校學生和另一名與我校無關的學生在離開校園前與一名教職員發生口角。報告也指出，本校學生持有武器。經查明，該名學生持有武器的報告不實。然而，出於謹慎考慮，本校已啟動「安全應變程序」，同時舊金山警察局（SFPD）展開調查。
當校舍外出現威脅或危險時，便會啟動「安全應變程序」。無論是因暴力事件，或是鄰近區域的犯罪活動，「安全應變程序」皆會利用校舍的實體設施作為防護屏障。在「安全應變程序」實施期間，校園周邊將被封鎖，這意味著教職員與學生不得進出校園，但校內常規活動仍可照常進行。
所有學生與教職員均安全無虞，當日課程亦按原定計畫進行。
下午約 4 時，放學時分已解除「安全應變程序」。為謹慎起見，本校教職員分佈於校園各處，確保學生能安全離校，並使課後活動得以按原定時間安全展開。

Estimada comunidad de MLK:
Hoy, aproximadamente a la 1 p. m., nuestro personal recibió un informe de que uno de nuestros estudiantes y otro estudiante que no pertenece a nuestra escuela tuvieron una discusión verbal con un miembro del personal antes de que ambos estudiantes abandonaran el campus. El informe también indicó que nuestro estudiante tenía un arma. Se determinó que el informe de que el estudiante tenía un arma era falso. Sin embargo, como medida de precaución y por seguridad, nuestra escuela activó un Protocolo de Seguridad mientras el Departamento de Policía de San Francisco (SFPD) realizaba una investigación.
Se activa un Protocolo de Seguridad cuando existe una amenaza o un peligro fuera del edificio escolar. Ya sea debido a violencia o actividad delictiva en las inmediaciones de la escuela, un Protocolo de Seguridad utiliza la seguridad de las instalaciones físicas como medida de protección. Durante un Protocolo de Seguridad, se asegura el perímetro del campus, lo que significa que el personal y los estudiantes no pueden salir del campus ni ingresar a él, mientras las actividades regulares pueden continuar en el interior.
Todos los estudiantes y miembros del personal permanecieron a salvo, y la jornada escolar continuó según lo previsto.

Por favor, anime a su hijo/a a hablar con un adulto de confianza en la escuela si se entera de alguna amenaza a la seguridad del campus, para que nuestro personal pueda investigar y tomar las medidas apropiadas.
