Greetings MLK Families,

SFUSD Newcomer Programs Working Group

SFUSD is launching a Newcomer Programs Working Group, and we invite families, educators, school staff, students, and community members to join us! We know that our immigrant and newcomer students and families bring incredible strengths, experiences, and perspectives to our school communities. We also recognize that we must do more to ensure every student and family feels welcomed, supported, and connected. This working group will bring together families, staff, community partners, and district leaders to listen, learn, share resources, and develop recommendations that strengthen our programs and systems of support. Whether you are a newcomer family or someone who wants to stand alongside and advocate for our immigrant communities, your voice and participation matter.

Please join us on Thursday, October 22, and Thursday, October 29, from 5:00–6:00 PM at Everett Middle School (450 Church Street). Together, we will identify the needs and experiences of newcomer students and families, share promising practices, and work toward schools where every student experiences belonging and has the opportunity to thrive. Dinner and childcare will be provided. We encourage you to share this invitation with families, colleagues, and community members who want to help build a stronger, more welcoming SFUSD. MLK's Election Night!

You are invited to join us for MLK's Election Night!

MLK Middle School's 8th grade Social Studies class is hosting "Election Night" for the community (all are welcome) to get information about local SFUSD School Board, Board of Supervisors, California Governor and California State Superintendent of Instruction, get registered to vote！

SFUSD Enrollment Fair

Families who will apply for PK, elementary school, middle school, or high school for the 2027-28 school year can come to the fair to learn about the application process, meet school Principals and other representatives, and access the resources provided by SFUSD and other city agencies and community organizations.

Lost and Found Clothes

Is your child missing clothes or water bottles? Every month we donate hundreds of dollars of clothes away. Please have your child stop by the lost and found clothes rack and pick up their lost items. We will be clearing out the items at the end of the month. 

School Site Council Meeting Summary

The School Site Council approved the reorganization. The proposal established the following subcommittees under the School Site Council: 

• African American Parent Advisory Council
• Association of Latin American Parents
• Chinese Affinity Group

Each Subcommittee shall nominate one representative to serve on the School Site Council (SSC), for a total of three designated seats. A fourth seat shall be open to any family or community member for nomination.

FILL OUT THE Multipurpose Family Income Form 

We are at 70% 80% 83% 84% ! We need to reach 90+% for continued funding. All meals are free this school year but your Multipurpose Family Income Form (MFIF) form is still requested to support school funding! HELP MLK lunch funding by filling out the form! This form assist with informing the district and the state of California the needs of MLK MS. This form assisted with MLK MS receiving the Community School Grant, adding $250,000 per year, as well as Title 1 Funding at $108,000 per year. In the past few years, students qualifying for free or reduced lunch during the school year also got $120 for summer EBT.

Welcome to the MLK Community Market!​

We are thrilled to announce that our grocery store​, MLK Community Market, will be opening soon to serve our school community.​ This resource is exclusively for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Academic Middle School families and registration is required. This is intended to be a supplementary food source to complement your current groceries, not to serve as a primary food bank or pantry.

To ensure that we can fulfill our mission and serve those with the greatest need, we are asking families to complete this form.​ We currently have limited funding and space, which allows us to provide a set number of grocery trips each month. We respectfully ask that you only submit this form if this resource would be a necessary support for your family at this time. If your family's situation changes and you no longer need our services, please let us know so we can make that space available for another family.​

Please note that after you fill out this form, you will receive an email for further information. Thank you for your understanding and for helping us create a strong, supportive community. We look forward to serving you.

El SFUSD está creando un Grupo de Trabajo de Programas para Recién Llegados e invitamos a familias, educadores, personal escolar, estudiantes y miembros de la comunidad a unirse. Sabemos que nuestros estudiantes y familias inmigrantes y recién llegados aportan valiosas fortalezas, experiencias y perspectivas a nuestras comunidades escolares. También reconocemos que debemos hacer más para garantizar que cada estudiante y familia se sienta bienvenido, apoyado y conectado. Este grupo de trabajo reunirá a familias, personal, socios comunitarios y líderes del distrito para escuchar, aprender, compartir recursos y desarrollar recomendaciones que fortalezcan nuestros programas y sistemas de apoyo. Ya sea que usted sea una familia recién llegada o alguien que desee apoyar y defender a nuestras comunidades inmigrantes, su voz y participación son importantes.

Ropa perdida

¿A tu hijo/a le falta ropa o botellas de agua? Cada mes donamos ropa por valor de cientos de dólares. Por favor, pídele a tu hijo/a que pase por el perchero de ropa perdida para recoger sus pertenencias. Recogeremos los objetos perdidos a finales de mes.

Resumen de la reunión del Consejo Escolar

El Consejo Escolar aprobó la reorganización. La propuesta estableció los siguientes subcomités dentro del Consejo Escolar:

• Consejo Asesor de Padres Afroamericanos
• Asociación de Padres Latinoamericanos
• Grupo de Afinidad Chino

Cada subcomité nominará a un representante para formar parte del Consejo Escolar, para un total de tres puestos designados. Un cuarto puesto estará abierto a la nominación de cualquier miembro de la familia o la comunidad.

COMPLETE el Formulario de Ingreso Familiar Multipropósito

¡Estamos al 70% 80% 83% 84%! Necesitamos alcanzar más del 90% para seguir recibiendo financiación.
