Announcement Message

Hello Francisco Students and Families,

We hope this letter finds each of you healthy and safe.  As we come to a close to the 2020-2021 school year, we naturally prepare for next school year.  After a very long year of online learning, we look forward to welcoming everyone back to in-person instruction, five days a week, starting Monday, August 16th.

Below you can find grade specific announcements that will wrap up our school year and support summer programming:

  1. Literacy Day! We have a special order of books to start your summer reading list.  Later this month we will offer your child a chance to select one high interest novel. This will also be an opportunity to pick up items from select teachers.   Dates and details to be determined via Rams Bulletin. This even is tentatively scheduled for the week of May 24th.

  2. Current 6th and 7th grade students will keep their iPads over the summer.  They will be checked in fall upon return.  Please take care of them as you are fully responsible for them and the charging cord.

    1. If you are not returning to Francisco in August, you will be expected to return your device, keyboard and cord June 1 or June 2.

  3. 8th Grade students have received an email from the company Envision requesting for them to submit their “graduate card” to be included in this year’s virtual ceremony.  Inserting a picture, memory/quote and adding to a gratitude wall are activities that need to be completed by May 19 in order for it to be included.  Please ask your child to show you his/her virtual card for your approval.  A consent box is also included for this submission.  See Ms. Lee’s Google classroom or email her for more information. Save these dates

    1. June 1 at 10 AM (virtual) Promotion Ceremony

    2. June 1 from 12 - 4 PM and June 2 from 9 - 11:30 AM  Return your device, keyboard and cord in exchange for your promotion certificates, academic awards and special promotion gifts!

  4. We have a special opportunity for our current 6th graders/rising 7th graders in preparation for next school year.  Tuesday, June 8 and Wednesday June 9 from 9 AM - 12 PM we will offer our two day, in-person orientation Step Up program.  This will be at Francisco MS.  This is an opportunity for your child to get physically oriented to the school and make connections with Francisco staff and students.  Students are expected to attend both days.  We will serve as many students as we have staff.  Confirmation of enrollment for Step Up will be emailed the week of May 24th.   Register your child now!

We strongly encourage you to participate with our Beacon summer program which offers the EL Academy*, sports, cooking, theater, sailing and more from June 7 to July 23. *EL Academy for newcomer students. Programs are free and will pay stipends up to $500 to qualified families. For more information contact Beacon Director Lorraine Orlandi at orlandil@@sfusd.edu. Until our next correspondence, remember that the best way to stay connected to our weekly announcements for students and families, highlights, helpful tips, calendars, and events, is to visit Francisco’s website.  Look for our announcements posted in Rams Bulletin, also found on the school’s website.  We will email you a follow up letter with the 2021-2022 bell schedule by the end of this school year.  It will also be available on our website.

Lastly, I’d like to thank and announce transitions in our admin team.  After three years at Francisco, Assistant Principal Ms Castro will take a sabbatical next school year and Ms. Gurholt will be moving on to another department in SFUSD.  We will be joined by Mr. Kevin Chan, who is our incoming Assistant Principal for the 2021-2022 school year.

We look forward to staying in contact with you.
