About Sunset Elementary School
Sunset School is a diverse community of engaged and joyful learners. We are committed to providing the highest academic standards in a safe and nurturing environment that affords all students the opportunity to succeed in the 21st century. Sunset community takes advantage of every opportunity to refine school practices so that everyone can learn, achieve, and succeed together. Teachers embrace best teaching practices to stay abreast of Common Core State Standards, interdisciplinary teaching strategies, differentiation for all learners, and professional academic learning.
Sunset is an inclusive community and provides access and equity to all students to ensure that social justice and academic growth are a reality at Sunset. With a comprehensive curriculum addressing everyone’s needs, the students are challenged in and out of the classroom to achieve success through STEAM activities including Outdoor Science, Technology, and Visual and Performing Arts. Parent and community involvement is vital to the school’s success.

Before School Programs
The Bay Area Community Resources (BACR) and the Sunset Neighborhood Beacon Center (SNBC) together offer a fee-based on-site program for all students before school from 7:30 am to 9:30 am. -
After School Programs
For students in grades K-5, there is a fee-based on-site after school learning program offered by BACR and SNBC. The program hours are Monday through Friday after school until 6:30 pm. The emphasis is on academics, enrichment, and homework support. Mandarin language enrichment may be added to the after school program for an additional fee. -

School communities gather twice a year to review data and previous actions in order to intentionally plan for the coming months. The School Plan for Student Achievement is the template on which this review and stakeholder engagement process is codified.

Social-Emotional and Culture Climate Report
SFUSD annually surveys families and school staff on a range of school climate indicators that have been found to predict positive student academic achievement. The social-emotional learning of students in grades 4-12 is also assessed.
