Introduction

On July 1, 2025, SFUSD launched two important new systems—Frontline and Red Rover—to better support our staff and streamline essential operations. This is part of a broader districtwide effort to move away from less efficient systems and enhance overall operational effectiveness.

Frontline, our new Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, and Red Rover, our new Human Capital Management (HCM) system, will serve as the backbone of SFUSD’s budget, payroll, and human resource functions. These systems are designed to make daily tasks easier, more efficient, and more reliable for everyone across the district.

Frontline will help manage key business operations such as budget planning, purchasing, payroll, benefits, credentialing, and retirement reporting. It’s a trusted platform already in use by over 60% of school districts and county offices throughout California.

Red Rover will support our people-centered work, handling recruiting, onboarding, absence tracking, and time management—all critical functions that impact our staff experience every day.

SFUSD is deeply committed to transparency while we implement this generational project. This modernization project transitions us from antiquated systems that evolved through decades of patchwork solutions to a standardized, streamlined platform—better positioning us to meet the challenges of data integration head-on.

We recognize that these are essential functions that we have to get right. We are taking it very seriously as the results could impact the everyday lives of our valuable employees. Based on the lessons learned from previous efforts, SFUSD has put in place several solutions for employees who might be experiencing issues or have questions about their paychecks:

  • If a staff member is experiencing pay discrepancies where they are underpaid by $50 or more, SFUSD can provide off-cycle checks to correct the issue within 48 hours.
  • To get support, staff can submit a help ticket or get help by calling the Call Center at 628-900-0901 (available now).
  • SFUSD will share daily updates on our public and staff website to provide real-time updates on implementation milestones, known issues and resolutions, along with resources for employees.

We understand that this is a major transition to help the district standardize our business processes, strengthen our systems, and be more efficient. It is not uncommon for issues to emerge during an Enterprise Resource Planning transition at our scale, particularly given the outdated systems that SFUSD had been using for years.

SFUSD is prepared and ready to support our staff along the way. Please review our website for important updates and information.
