Who are School Counselors? Link to this section

School counselors play an essential role in creating an equitable, inclusive school culture promoting success for all. School counselors help all students:

  • are based on data-informed decision making
  • are delivered to all students systematically
  • include a developmentally appropriate curriculum focused on the mindsets and behaviors all students need for postsecondary readiness and success
  • close achievement and opportunity gaps
  • result in improved student achievement, attendance and discipline

SFUSD Counseling & Post-Secondary Success plays a critical role in supporting SFUSD Vision, Values, Goals, and Guardrails (VVGG) by building authentic partnerships with students and families, advocating for students, and collaborating with district teams and post-secondary institutions to ensure strong access to services and resources for students and families as well as high level professional development, training and consultation for school counselors.
