AccessSFUSD: The Arc Hosts Art Showcase at ACT Strand Theater
San Francisco (May 23, 2024) - It was a day of celebrating creativity and inspiration at AccessSFUSD: The Arc’s end of year art showcase. Students, family members, SFUSD staff and community supporters all packed into the American Conservatory Theater Strand Theater to admire students' digital and visual artwork and watch performances.
“I really like doing art because it is colorful,” AccessSFUSD student ambassador, Anthony Li, said. He later received a certificate from San Francisco Mayor London Breed.
AccessSFUSD: The Arc’s vision is to provide equity-based, quality services and supports for SFUSD’s transition-aged students with IEPs that result in positive in-school and post-school outcomes. They involve students in community based opportunities which promote the joy of learning while addressing students' individual needs.
“They [students] produce a lot of art in our classes either outside in the community with other artists or in a studio at school and it’s very important for them to showcase not only their visual art but also performances,” AccessSFUSD educator, Radka Pulliam, said.
There was a diverse range of artwork displayed on sale from digital prints, laser jewelry, mixed medium collages and even clothing. The performances included collaboration with Rock Project SF, BollyX dance, new videos in collaboration with A.C.T., and other short videos.
“Our motto is San Francisco is the campus so here is a great example of us using the community as a classroom,” SFUSD Special Education Department Head Arts Coordinator for AccessSFUSD, Heidi Seretan said.
