Frank Ferris was a member of the Spring Class of 1943, one of Abraham Lincoln High School's pioneer classes.
He was born October 6, 1925, to Frank DeWitt and Lydia Elizabeth (Johnson) Ferris in San Joaquin County, California. His father was born on January 28, 1881, in Wisconsin, and died on October 18, 1951, in Madera County, California. His mother was born in 1885 in Illinois.
Frank had a sister, Joan Elizabeth, who was born on December 17, 1930, in San Francisco.
Frank entered Abraham Lincoln in the Fall 1940 after attending Lawton Grammar School in San Francisco. He graduated with the Fourth Commencement Class on June 17, 1943.
The 1942-1943 Roundup states the following about Frank Ferris: ". . . future lies down yonder in South America . . . dotes all food - all kinds . . . shakes his head at all homework."
After graduation, he entered the military service with the United States Army and enrolled in the U.S. Army Air Force Pilot Training Program. He was subsequently assigned to Section L. 3033rd Army Air Force Base Unit (Basic Pilot School).
The 1944-1945 Abraham Lincoln Roundup section denoting alumni who were in the armed services noted that Frank was deceased.
The World War II Honor List of Dead & Missing Army and Army Air Forces Personnel from California, indicates that he was a private and died on September 3, 1944, from a non-battle cause.
His remains were returned to California and interred on September 8, 1944, in Golden Gate National Cemetery, San Bruno, San Mateo County, California, in Section H, Block 2, Grave #903.
