Jeffrey Wentzell

Jeffrey Raymond Wentzell was a member of the Fall Class of 1965 at Abraham Lincoln High School in San Francisco.

        He was born October 17, 1948, to C. H. "Harry" and Marcelle H. (Hakim) Wentzell. His father was born at Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia, Canada, on June 29, 1913, and died on March 1, 1995, in Reno, Nevada, while his mother was born in Alexandria, Egypt, on September 23, 1917, and died on October 13, 1982, in San Mateo County, California.

        His father was with the Massachusetts State Police before joining the U. S. Army and eventually being promoted to lieutentant colonel in the U. S. Army Air Force. He held the position as Assistant Provost Marshall for the U. S. Air Force in the Pentagon for four years.

        Jeffrey had three sisters: Sandra Rae "Sandi," born in Wilmington, North Carolina, on December 12, 1942; Joan Leslie "Joni" born in Ft. Meade, Maryland, on September 26, 1951: and Sally Michele, born. born on June 29,1945, in Macon, Georgia, Michelle never married.

        Sandi married Fred DeSilva and two children were born in Southgate, California, to this marriage: Rae Anne, born on August 10, 1959, and Kimberly Joan, born on September 16, 1960. Kimberly Joan married Terry Tingle, and they had three children: Kathleen Maria, Elizabeth Erina and William. born on December 2, 1992.

        Joni married David C. Vincent in San Francisco, they had no children.

        Jeff attended grammar school in Hawaii and Southern California. He graduated from Hoover Middle School in San Francisco and then entered Abraham Lincoln High School in 1961. While attending Lincoln, he competed on the Junior Varsity Cross Country Track Team. He was elected President of his registry Class and was also on the staff on the 1966 Abraham Lincoln Roundup. He graduated in the Forty-ninth Commencement Class on January 26, 1966.

        The 1965-1966 Roundup states the following about Jeffrey Wentzell: "History-Math-English major, Reg. Pres., Cross Country Track, Programming, Roundup Staff, C.C.S.F., Air Force."

        He went to City College of San Francisco after graduating from Lincoln. It is not known if he graduated from City College before he enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corps.

        Upon completion of basic and advanced training, he was awarded he Military Occupational Specialty Code of rifleman. He was ordered later to the Vietnam theater of Operations. He was subsequently assigned to K Company, 3rd Battaliom, 3rd Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division. He commenced his VietNam tour of duty on November 8, 1967.pecific Marine unit that he was subsequently assigned to is unknown. However, he did commence his Vietnam tour of duty on Nvember 8, 1967.

        After entry into combat in Quang Tri Province, South Vietnam, he was wounded by small arms fire and subsequently awarded the Purple Heart Medal. He died of his wounds on February 14, 1968. At the time of his death, he was 19 years old.

        He is listed on the Vietnam Combat Area Casualty List, 1957-1986. Record of the Secretary of Defense, as a lance corporal, killed in action in South Vietnam on February 14, 1968.
