Robert Borge

Robert Borge was a member of the Fall Class of 1943 of Abraham Lincoln High School in San Francisco.

        He was born March 15, 1926, in San Francisco, California, to Hans and Petra (Tennesen) Borge. He was the youngest of three children born to his mother.

        His father was born on November 17, 1874, in Fredrikstad, Norway, and died on October 23, 1951, in San Francisco. His mother, Petra, was born on November 2, 1884, in Egersterd, Norway, and died in San Francisco on March 25, 1967.

        Robert entered Abraham Lincoln High School after grammar school and graduated with the Fifth Commencement Class on February 3, 1944.

        The 1943-1944 Roundup states the following about Robert Borge:". . . blue eyes . . . blond hair . . . came from Poly . . . Bob's ambition is the U. S. Merchant Marine."

        During the summer of 1943, he worked for Henry Doelger, who, at the time was constructing homes in the Sunset District of San Francisco. He worked at the construction yard located at 31st Avenue and Noriega Street. His job was to drive a truck delivering tools and equipment to the various job sites. As a result, he acquired the nickname of "tool." The common request of foremen in the field was, "Send the 'tool' with some more nails."

        He entered the Army Air Force after graduation and was subsequently assigned to Bergstrom Field, Austin, Texas. While at Bergstrom, he was attached to the 807th Army Air Force Base Unit - Squadron Training. He was killed on April 19, 1945, when the plane in which he was a radio operator crashed near Austin Texas.

        Robert is listed in the World War II Honor List of Dead & Missing Army and Army Air Forces Personnel from California, as a Private and killed from a non battle cause.

        His remains were returned to California and interred in the Golden Gate National Cemetery, in San Bruno, San Mateo County, California, in Section H, Grave #1175.
