William Albert Rosenthal, Jr., was a member of the Spring Class of 1944 at Abraham Lincoln High School in San Francisco.

        He was born on October 31, 1926, to William Albert and Ruby E. (Cox) Rosenthal in San Francisco. William Albert Jr., was an only child.

        His father was born in Oregon on May 25, 1906, and died in San Francisco on June 3, 1958. Ruby, his mother was born on August 24, 1906, in Springfield Missouri.

        He attended Abraham Lincoln High School from October 28, 1942, but withdrew on October 10, 1943 before graduating to enlist in the United States Marine Corps.

        William's name is listed in the 1943-1944 and the 1944-1945 Abraham Lincoln Roundups in the section denoting alumni who were in the armed forces as being in the Marine Corps.

        After he completed basic training, he was assigned to the Pacific Theatre of Operations with the 6th Marine Division. He was killed in action on May 10, 1945, when his division was engaged in the battle for Okinawa. He was a private at the time.

        William Albert Rosenthal's name is on the list of World War II Deceased of the Navy and Marine Corps Personnel from California.

        William was initially interred on Okinawa in Cemetery #1, Ryukyo Retto. His remains were disinterred and returned to the United States with subsequent reinternment at the Golden Gate National Cemetery, San Bruno, San Mateo County, California, on April 4, 1949, in Section B, Grave #11.
