GENERAL APPLICATION INFORMATION FOR THE 2025-26 SCHOOL YEAR Link to this section

Applications are accepted from ALL current 8th grade students who meet San Francisco residency requirements.  Current 9th, 10th, or 11th grade applicants are considered only if space is available.  Link to this section

Students will be considered at Asawa SOTA after completing all 3 parts of the application process for the 2025-26 school year.  

1.  Apply to the San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) - Due December 13, 2024 Link to this section

• All SFUSD and Non-SFUSD students, who meet San Francisco residency requirements, may apply to the Ruth Asawa SOTA by selecting Ruth Asawa SOTA as one of their choices on the 2025-26 SFUSD Online Enrollment Application accessible through ParentVue.
• Additional Ruth Asawa SOTA specific pages will open up in the application.  Applicants must choose one art department on the application.
• If you're unable to access ParentVue, please call the SFUSD Enrollment Center for assistance.

2.  Complete an Audition Assignment 

• Applicants are required to complete an Audition Assignment for the art department they are applying to. Audition Assignments are unique to each art department or strand.  Please check the Audition Assignment by department for details regarding advance submission (UPLOADING) or rehearsing and preparing for the audition.
  • Audition Assignments are due December 13, 2024 and must be UPLOADAD for the following art departments:   Architecture & Design, Media & Film, Technical Theatre, Visual Art Drawing & Painting, Creative Writing, Spoken Arts.
  • If you are applying to the art departments below you will not UPLOAD your audition assignment in advance.  You will prepare, rehearse, and present your audition assignment at the February 8, 2025 audition.   Conservatory Dance, World Dance, Music - Contemporary Instrumental, Classical Instrumental, Vocal, World Music, Theatre - (Acting Major + Musical Theatre Major)
• Audition Assignments will help prepare students for a successful audition and inform them about the work done in department they are applying to.

3.  Participate in the Audition:  Saturday, February 8, 2025, (times TBA), SAVE THE DATE

• Audition details and times are emailed to students, who applied, and completed (are completing) an audition assignment. Emails with Audition details: sent by January 27, 2025. Please contact us if you do not receive them.
• Students audition for one art department or strand ONLY.
• A second audition may be held in April for any art department seats that were not filled.  Students who auditioned in February may audition again in April for a different department.

Students who apply to Ruth Asawa SOTA must live in San Francisco with a parent/legal guardian at the time of application, and continue to live in San Francisco while attending Asawa SOTA. Interdistrict permits are not allowed for admission.
