Dear Rising Star Families,

I hope you are safe, healthy and finding some comfort amongst family and friends during these challenging times. I’m sorry that we won’t be physically together to start the school year on August 17th, but know that our wonderful teachers and staff are already working hard to ensure that your child has a high quality distance learning experience that will push academic growth and support social-emotional learning. There is so much to say as our country is the midst of a global pandemic and the fight against systemic racism, but above all, please know that the VVES students and families are always at the forefront of my mind and in my heart, and my commitment to strive for educational equity and serve this community remains strong. We will get through this together and have a great year!

Here are the 3 most important things you need to know:

1. The district is providing curriculum materials and school supplies for each student, and students who do not have a laptop at home can borrow one. We will be having two Distribution Days outside on the yard following safety and social distancing guidelines. Please come on either day to avoid overcrowding. Class lists will be posted and you will get a welcome letter and online learning schedule from your child’s teacher as well.

VVES K-5 Distribution Days​: ​*Please use the Visitacion Ave. parking lot entrance

●  Thursday (8/13), 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

●  Friday (8/14), 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

2. Monday (8/17) - ​1st day of school/online learning​. You can help your child prepare by making sure he/she has username and password, access to Zoom and a workspace free from distractions.

3. Parent Engagement and regular communication is important to us. ​ALL PARENTS MUST REGISTER for​ ​ParentVUE​ - a K-12 family portal which offers access to your student’s school information ​in any language​ including: grades, attendance, student log in and password for SFUSD digital learning sites and school and district-wide announcements. *You can also update your contact information if you move or change phones. ​Download the mobile ParentVUE app OR go to portal.sfusd.edu and click on “activate.​” If you need your child’s Activation Key,​ contact Principal Wallace at 415-297-8566 or ​wallaceb@sfusd.edu​. There are video instructions on the SFUSD website under “Family Portal Resources” or we can help you get activated on the Distribution Days (8/13 & 14).

I know there are a lot of unanswered questions that may be causing anxiety, but we have a wonderful community and there is a lot of support available. Kindergarten families will be getting additional information soon about Kinder Orientation. We want to make your child’s 1st school experience a positive one! Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you have now or throughout the year. Estimadas familias de las Estrellas Crecientes:
Espero que esté seguro, sano y que encuentre algo de consuelo entre familiares y amigos durante estos tiempos difíciles. Lamento no estar físicamente juntos para comenzar el año escolar el 17 de agosto, pero sepan que nuestros maravillosos maestros y personal ya están trabajando arduamente para garantizar que su hijo tenga una experiencia de aprendizaje a distancia de alta calidad que impulse el crecimiento académico y apoyar el aprendizaje socioemocional. Hay tanto que decir, ya que nuestro país está en medio de una pandemia global y la lucha contra el racismo sistémico, pero sobre todo, sepan que los estudiantes y las familias de VVES siempre están a la vanguardia de mi mente y en mi corazón, y mi compromiso de luchar por la equidad educativa y servir a esta comunidad sigue siendo fuerte. ¡Lo superaremos juntos y tendremos un gran año!
