History
The initial attempt at launching a district advisory group consisting of LGBTQ+ student leaders can be traced back to SFUSD board policy No 912-8a3 (2010) adopted by the board in 2010:
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That in the service of effecting a healthier learning environment for our LGBTQ students, the Board of Education of the San Francisco Unified School District requests that the Superintendent of Schools create an LGBTQ sub-committee of the Student Advisory Council;
The current QTAC developed organically over the last 7 years as a result of the successful partnership between Genders & Sexualities Alliance (GSA) student leaders and LGBTQ Student Services staff in planning and coordinating the annual GSA Day (now called Youth Pride!).
At the end of the 2018-2019 school year, the student leaders on the GSA Day planning committee requested to have a broader impact beyond event planning with an added focus on systems/program change in support of all LGBTQ+ students. These student leaders voted to rebrand the group as the Queer Trans Advisory Council starting the 2019 fall semester.
