Student Injured in Firearm-Related Incident at Burton High School

Shortly after 12:00 p.m. today, a student at Burton High School was injured in an incident involving a firearm and was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. SFPD responded immediately, and the school enacted a secure protocol as a precaution, which closes off the perimeter of the campus. At this time, SFPD has indicated the incident appears to be isolated with no ongoing threat to the school community. The incident remains under investigation by SFPD.

SFUSD is providing support to students and staff, and we thank our school community and SFPD for their quick response. SFUSD’s highest priority is to ensure a safe learning environment for students, staff, and visitors on every one of our campuses. The district has a comprehensive crisis plan in the event of any emergency, and all schools have individual safety plans and security measures. We understand that students may be feeling a variety of emotions in response to this incident, and we have additional wellness staff available to speak with students as needed.
