High School Peer Tutor/Mentor

Citywide Tutorial Program seeks a paid opportunity for high schoolers as an intern in the Education industry.  The role is peer tutor/mentor who will be compensated for hands-on activities working with other students in varied after-school programs throughout the SFUSD.  This peer tutoring option is devised to close achievement gaps and support the Education sector.  Accessibility to educational support encourages the tutor and tutee to explore questions, learn, have confidence, and think more deeply.

Demonstrates academic excellence

Good social and communication skills

RESPONSIBILITIES

The peer tutor/mentor will engage with a teacher outside of a tutoring session on a tutee's readiness.  Also, the tutor is responsible for simplifying the question and teamwork method of the tutoring session with a tutee.  

They will work with an assigned student or a small group for the tutee's tutoring session(s).  If needed, they will sit with the tutee(s), supporting them in rephrasing or re-engaging.  Encourages the student and pushes them to think through inquiry.  Reviews the student activities for understanding and thought-partnering through any confusion.  Use graphic organizers and other strategies to model note-taking for the student.  Encourages tutee to take notes.
