Do I Need to Return My District Devices ? (Chromebooks, hotspots,etc.)
ALL STUDENTS need to bring their Chromebooks back to school by 9/30. Please check in with your students' school site for more detailed information about their collection process.
Students leaving SFUSD
Any student leaving the District is to return their District-issued Chromebook and/or Internet Hotspot including the device’s charging cables to their current school.
Elementary School and K-8
K-4th Grade: ALL STUDENTS need to bring their Chromebooks back to school by 9/30. Please check in with your students' school site for more detailed information about their collection process.
Please note : Starting in 4th grade students begin the 1:1 Chromebook Take-Home program, so they will be assigned new Chromebooks as long as they have turned in their previously assigned device.
5th Grade - Students should continue using their assigned device from SY21-22. If you have any 5th grader who needs a device, please contact your child's school for more information
Middle School and K-8 Schools
6th - 8th Grade -Students should continue using their assigned device from SY21-22.
- The Department of Technology is focused on providing schools ECF Chromebooks to assign to eligible students.
- If you have students in grade 6th-12th that need a device, please complete the ECF survey on ParentVUE/StudentVUE. It will automatically pop up upon login. DoT will uses the response data to supply schools with ECF Chromebooks.
- Students not eligible for ECF Chromebooks should be assigned a Chromebook from their school’s onsite inventory.
Important Note: The Student Technology Unmet Needs Assessment Survey will be on StudentVUE for all Secondary Students that the District did not receive ParentVUE responses for.
High Schools

Graduating Seniors must turn in their District-issued Chromebook and/or Internet Hotspot including the device’s charging cables at the end of the school year to their current school. Please check in with your students' school site for more detailed information about their collection process.

Those students participating in Credit Recovery Programs will be provided Chromebooks from those programs, if necessary.
Need a Device?
Please note
- PK-3rd Grade: The Department of Technology (DoT) is not providing Chromebooks for PK-3rd grade Students to take home. DoT will provide each K-3 classroom chromebooks for each student enrolled .
- 4th- 12th Grade : The Department of Technology will provide schools ECF Chromebooks to assign to eligible students. Students not eligible for ECF Chromebooks should be assigned a Chromebook from their school’s onsite inventory.
- If you are a student or a parent of a student who needs a device, please follow these steps
- Return any SFUSD Devices that were given to you between March 2020 - June 2022
- Complete the ECF Survey on ParentVUE/StudentVUE
- Emergency Connectivity Fund (ECF) Survey Directions(coming soon)
- Reach out to your school sites Device Inventory Lead for next steps

How to return your students district devices
- If you are leaving, or have left, SFUSD, return district technology to the last SFUSD school you attended.
- If you cannot get to your former school, you may also leave your items (with charging cables) in the drop box at 555 Franklin St. The lobby may be accessed Mon-Fri 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM.
