Announcement Message

Student Nutrition Services will be celebrating Earth Day by amplifying our sustainability efforts! On Earth Day, April 22, SFUSD School Sites will use compostable forks. We’re excited about the collective impact of reducing our plastic waste by roughly 40,000 forks, and we need your help for this to be successful!

We recognize that this change is only for a day however, we want students to see how their collaborative efforts, even for ONE day, can make a huge difference.

We have posters to share:

Here's our breakdown of our plan to help ensure success:

  • SNS will have additional personnel for at least 12 sites on April 22 to help students
    compost.
  • We have communicated with all necessary parties to help with this effort:
    • Dining Staff - to only put out compostable forks
    • Custodial - for awareness and help in the cafeteria, if possible.
    • Principals and Admin via LEAD - to spread awareness to staff and students.
  • SNS will have a “Thank You for Composting” flyer near all of the green compost bins. It
has a photo of the forks and looks like this:
  • Thank You For Composting SNS
  • If you are interested in learning about SNS's other sustainability efforts, please take a look at this
flyer. If you have any questions, please reach out via SchoolLunch@sfusd.edu.
