Announcement Message
SFUSD remains committed to providing every student with options to access the 4-year high school math sequence required for UC/CSU admissions.
To that end, on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, the Board of Education will vote on updating the Math Placement Policy (BP 6152.1) to clarify that students are no longer required to pass the Math Validation Test (MVT) in order to take Geometry in the 9th grade. This clarification reflects the current approach being used by the district, and does not impose a new requirement. Students who have completed a CCSS Algebra 1 course with a C or better can take Geometry in 9th grade.
Additionally, Algebra 1 options will be available to all 8th grade students across SFUSD.
