Please join an upcoming virtual public webinar regarding Algebra I in 8th grade at SFUSD.
During this session, two research professors who studied the district’s Algebra I pilot options during the 2024-25 school year will share the results of their research. They will present key findings on student outcomes, including academic progress and attendance, and provide insights to help families better understand the impact of these approaches.
This webinar is an opportunity to learn more about the research and data collected, ask questions, and engage in an important conversation about math opportunities in our schools.

Background Information
Over the past two years, the San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) tried out different ways to offer Algebra I to students in 8th grade. Now, we are considering permanent ways to offer Algebra I to students in 8th grade beginning in the 2026-27 school year.
We expect to bring a recommendation on SFUSD’s Math Placement Policy to the Board of Education for approval on March 24, 2026.
