Dear SFUSD Teachers:

As Teacher Appreciation Week comes to a close, I want to take this opportunity to express my deep gratitude for all that you do for our students, families, and school communities every day.

Teaching is a profession unlike any other. It requires patience, deep knowledge, creativity, strong interpersonal skills, and extraordinary energy. Day in and day out, you create classrooms where students feel safe, valued, supported, and challenged to grow academically, socially, and emotionally.

Teachers do far more than deliver instruction. You are mentors, advocates, role models, and trusted adults who help students discover their strengths and build confidence in themselves and their futures. You adjust, adapt, and respond to the needs of each learner, often in real time, ensuring that every student has the opportunity to thrive.

The relationships you build with students are at the heart of strong school communities. Those connections foster belonging, resilience, and engagement, and they often make a lasting difference in students’ lives. Beyond the classroom, you support students through challenges, collaborate with families, and contribute to the broader life of your schools in countless ways.

You are also instrumental in advancing SFUSD’s student outcome goals and bringing our mission and vision to life. Through your daily work, you help ensure that all students have access to rigorous learning, meaningful support, and opportunities that prepare them for success in school and beyond. Your efforts are central to our commitment to serving the whole child and building equitable, inclusive schools where every student can thrive.

As this week comes to a close, I hope you feel the appreciation that surrounds you—not just this week, but throughout the year. While Teacher Appreciation Week offers a moment to pause and recognize your contributions, we know your impact is felt every single day in the lives of students across our district.

Thank you for your dedication, your persistence, your care, and your unwavering commitment to SFUSD students. Our schools are stronger, our communities are better, and our future is brighter because of you.

Warm regards,

Maria
