A planned controlled burn is under way on Angel Island, run by Cal Fire, California State Parks, and Marin County Fire. Smoke may be visible or noticeable in parts of the Bay Area, including near some of our school sites. This is not an emergency.
Air quality readings at most of our locations are currently in the moderate range, which does not call for changes to outdoor school activities under SFUSD’s air quality guidance for site leaders. However, conditions can vary from neighborhood to neighborhood, so each school site is monitoring its own air and may move recess or PE indoors and run air purifiers if smoke is heavier where they are.
Please advise that students with asthma or other respiratory conditions should get extra attention in case any issue arises. If your child has an inhaler or care plan, please make sure your school has current copies.
What you can do:

Please do not call 911 about the smoke. It is a planned burn.

If your child has trouble breathing, wheezing, or other symptoms that worry you, contact your child's health care provider.

Let your school know if your child has a health condition that smoke may affect.
The controlled burn may continue tomorrow. We are keeping a close eye on air quality and will let you know if anything changes. Thank you for your patience and partnership.
