Dr. Renée Marcy joined the Curriculum and Instruction Division in July 2020 and served as the Supervisor for Science through June 2024. In her current role, as Director of STEM, she oversees the mathematics, science, and computer science curriculum and supports educators and schools with instruction in these subjects, K to12. Dr. Marcy brings 25 years of experience in K-12 education and leadership to this role. Prior to 2020, she served as school principal, senior policy associate, and teacher coach for more than a decade. As a teacher for more than 13 years she taught science and mathematics at both the elementary and secondary levels.

Dr. Marcy has a strong interest in science and mathematics and a background in educational research. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from The Pennsylvania State University, with a concentration in mathematics and science and a minor in Science, Technology, and Society. She studied educational leadership and conducted a Critical Race study of how teachers think about race in professional development to earn a doctorate in education from the University of California, Los Angeles. Dr. Marcy is determined to improve access to high quality instruction for each and every student and to work with the dedicated STEM Team and educators, administrators, and families of SFUSD toward that goal.
