Dr. Renée Marcy joined the Curriculum and Instruction Department as District Supervisor for Science in July 2020. Dr. Marcy brings more than 23 years’ experience in K-12 education and leadership to this role. For over a decade, she served as school principal, senior policy associate, and literacy coach. As a teacher of science she taught students in elementary, middle, and high schools through interdisciplinary projects for 13 years. 

Dr. Marcy has a strong interest in science and a background in educational research. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from The Pennsylvania State University, with a concentration in mathematics and science and a minor in Science, Technology, and Society. She studied educational leadership and conducted a Critical Race study of how teachers think about race in professional development to earn a doctorate in Education from the University of California, Los Angeles. Dr. Marcy is determined to improve access to high quality instruction for each and every student, and she is eager to work with the dedicated Science Department and teachers, administrators, and families of SFUSD toward that goal.
