How long can I stay in one assignment?

🏫 Assignment Limits for Substitute Teachers

📄 With a 30-Day Substitute Permit

  • General education classroom:
    • Max 30 days in the same classroom
  • Special Education classroom:
    • Max 20 days in the same classroom

👉 After hitting the limit, you must leave that assignment (even if it continues).

🎓 With a Clear California Teaching Credential

  • General education classroom:
    • Can stay beyond 30 days (no fixed cap)
  • Special Education classroom:
    • Can stay beyond 20 days (no fixed cap)

⚠️ Key Takeaways

  • The 30-day permit strictly limits how long you can stay in one assignment.
  • A clear credential in the subject for which you are substitute teaching, removes the 30-day cap for general eduation and special education.
