Greetings MLK Community,

On Tuesday December 16, 2025, the San Francisco Board of Education met and discussed the San Francisco Unified School District’s Fiscal Stabilization Plan. The presented plan included many cuts affecting a number of MLK Staff. During the public comment period, a record number of students attended in person to make their voices heard, advocating for what students believed helped their educational experience. 

After a long discussion, the Board voted 0 Yes / 6 No and rejected the plan. While the plan has been currently rejected, we are not sure what effect it has on our school planning. 

We do encourage families to complete the budget survey, and attend the meetings in January. Please respond to this survey to let MLK MS know what the priorities should be for the upcoming school year. https://forms.gle/jB5rVKFcgsJAkD2L9

El martes 16 de diciembre de 2025, la Junta de Educación de San Francisco se reunió para discutir el Plan de Estabilización Fiscal del Distrito Escolar Unificado de San Francisco. El plan presentado incluyó numerosos recortes que afectaron a varios miembros del personal de MLK. Durante el período de comentarios públicos, un número récord de estudiantes asistió en persona para expresar su opinión y defender lo que consideraban que había mejorado su experiencia educativa.

Tras un largo debate, la Junta votó 0 Sí y 6 No y rechazó el plan. Si bien el plan ha sido rechazado, no estamos seguros de su impacto en la planificación escolar.

Animamos a las familias a completar la encuesta sobre el presupuesto y a asistir a las reuniones de enero. Por favor, responda a esta encuesta para informar a la Escuela Secundaria MLK cuáles deberían ser las prioridades para el próximo año escolar. https://forms.gle/jB5rVKFcgsJAkD2L9

El calendario de reuniones para la planificación del próximo año escolar es el siguiente:

A School Site Council (SSC) must be established at all San Francisco Unified School District public schools. The elected members represent parents, students, community members, and school staff in school governance. The SSC is responsible for the development the Academic Plan, and overall school site budget including any categorical funds. The SSC is expected to:

• Review the SFUSD Strategic Plan: Transform Learning. Transform Lives.
• Review and analyze student data.
• Solicit community input and develop a needs assessment.
• Assist the principal in developing the BSC/SPSA and school site budget.
• Monitor the implementation and effectiveness of the BSC/SPSA on an ongoing basis.
• Approve the Academic Plan and school site budget before it is submitted to the District for final review and approval.
