Ruth Asawa School of the Arts
The Ruth Asawa School of the Arts is a San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) high school offering visual and performing art classes daily in addition to a rigorous college preparatory curriculum.
The Art Programs at Asawa SOTA include:
- Dance - Conservatory Dance or World Dance
- Media & Film
- Music - Instruments and Vocal Arts
- Theater Tech - Stagecraft or Costume & Fashion Design
- Visual - Architecture & Design or Drawing & Painting
- Writing - Creative Writing or Spoken Arts
All current 8th graders, living in San Francisco, that have a passion in a single art discipline, are encouraged to apply.
Students audition for placement in one department or strand only. Auditioning students qualify for placement based on audition results - no academic criteria are used.
Most departments require the completion of an audition assignment prior to receiving an audition.
Auditions are held in February for placement the following school year. About 200 students are accepted.
Asawa SOTA's application process is different than other SFUSD high schools. Both Asawa SOTA and SFUSD have their own, separate, application forms and process. Applicants must apply to both.
