CAC MONTHLY UPDATE Link to this section

Hello CAC Community,

Thank you for your support during such an eventful school year.  The CAC has made a big impact this year. We held 11 CAC meetings, partnered with AAPAC on CCEIS, held a Reclassification Town Hall with DELAC, Support for Families and Parents for Public Schools and once again co-sponsored the Annual Information and Resource Conference with Support for Families and the Special Education Department. We also advocated for improved special education programs and services in SFUSD and went to Sacramento on SELPA Legislative Sharing Day where we advocated for increased statewide funding and support for special education programs.

The CAC Community Picnic was this past Sunday. Our Board members got their well deserved flowers, we visited with old friends and made new connections. Thanks to our volunteer organizers and all who brought food to share and came out to join us. The CAC will be on hiatus for the month of July- we look forward to connecting again as we gear up for the 26-27 school year!

If you missed previous meetings and are interested in watching the recording or viewing the slides, please visit the CAC meeting archives.

PURPOSE OF THE CAC Link to this section

The purpose of the Community Advisory Committee (CAC) for Special Education is to champion effective special education programs and services and advise the Board of Education on priorities in the Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA).

The State Education Code mandates that each SELPA have a CAC and that a majority of CAC members are parents of students with disabilities.

Joining the CAC gives community members an opportunity to have their opinions heard and make a difference in the way special education is conducted in our area. Find out more on the CAC membership page.
