CAC MONTHLY UPDATE Link to this section

Hello CAC Community,

This October, we are excited to celebrate the rich diversity across our schools as we continue honoring Latinx Heritage Month (through Oct. 15) and begin celebrating Filipino American History Month and LGBTQ+ History Month.

October is also Principal Appreciation Month! Our principals and assistant principals work hard every day to support our children, partner with families, and foster safe, welcoming school communities where all students can thrive. Please take a moment this month to thank your school's administrative team for everything they do!

Please join us for our October General Meeting which is a Board of Education Candidate Forum on Thursday, October 22nd from 6:00-8:00pm. (Register today!)  Come learn where the candidates stand on important special education topics and be sure to click the link below to submit your questions to the candidates!

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our September Monthly Meeting on Restorative Practices. If you missed previous meetings and are interested in watching the recording or viewing the slides, please visit the CAC meeting archives.

UPCOMING CAC Meetings- CAC November General Meeting Link to this section

A Community Cafe with AAPAC

Presented by the SFUSD CAC

Date & Time: Thursday, November 19 from 5:30-7:30pm

Location: In-person at Leola Havard, 1360 Oakdale Avenue, Register here

Our November General Meeting is our annual joint meeting between SFUSD’s African American Advisory Committee and the Community Advisory Committee for Special Education (CAC). Many families live at the intersection of being Black and navigating special education. Too often, we’re asked to advocate for our children in separate rooms. This meeting brings us together, because when it comes to fair treatment, real support, and high expectations for children, we are advocating for the same things. We are stronger when we do it together.

Plus: We’ll be giving out special harvest bags full of groceries for families to enjoy over fall break!

PURPOSE OF THE CAC Link to this section

The purpose of the Community Advisory Committee (CAC) for Special Education is to champion effective special education programs and services and advise the Board of Education on priorities in the Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA).

The State Education Code mandates that each SELPA have a CAC and that a majority of CAC members are parents of students with disabilities.

Joining the CAC gives community members an opportunity to have their opinions heard and make a difference in the way special education is conducted in our area. Find out more on the CAC membership page.
