Welcome Message from Caroline Satoda, Supervisor
Welcome to the SFUSD Induction New Teacher Support Program website which has information for teachers, coaches and other interested stakeholders. We are committed to supporting our newest teachers to accelerate their growth and development on the California Standards for the Teaching Profession (CSTP) to positively impact student outcomes. We provide professional development to train coaches to guide new teachers to be reflective and successful and are invested in teachers into and through induction and credentialing requirements so they remain in our district throughout their careers.
Vision and Mission Statement
The SFUSD Induction and New Teacher Support Program provides meaningful coaching focused on improving instruction and creating equitable outcomes for each and every student so our new educators feel emotionally and intellectually supported in their first years of teaching, improve in their content knowledge, pedagogy and skill in the classroom and develop the equity mindsets and dispositions that support successful teaching of our most vulnerable youth.
SIP provides support for early career teachers who are working on emergency permits, intern credentials and preliminary credentials to improve their practice and earn their clear California credential, allowing them to stay in the profession and support students in their classrooms to meet the vision outlined in the SFUSD graduate profile.
Data and Information
The CA Commission on Teacher Credentialing-approved Induction Program annually enrolls 400-500 year one or year two induction teachers with preliminary credentials. SIP also supports 200 Intern credentialed and Emergency Permit teachers. Over 300 trained veteran teacher coaches support them with Individualized Learning Plans designed to provoke deep reflection, data analysis, observation feedback towards their CSTP professional growth goals by engaging in inquiry cycles. The program is provided at no cost to teacher candidates.
