Art

Introduction

At APG, visual arts focuses on inquiry-based design studio practice. This means that the process is valued over the product. Students work on how best to express ideas and concepts through impactful visual communication. Art practice centers on experimentation, curiosity, collaboration, and play. Students grow their creative skills and develop critique skills by talking about their work and the work of their peers.

Visual art is offered in all grades. 6th grade visual art is part of the quarterly arts rotation which also includes drama, digital media, and choir. 7th and 8th have year long classes as well as a mixed 7th and 8th grade Advanced class which focuses on building independent practice. Contemporary artmaking studio habits will be developed through a variety of media including design elements, observational drawing, painting, printmaking, ceramics, color theory, sculpture, abstraction, photography, bookmaking, textiles, thinking routines, and choice-based artmaking.
