Announcement Message

With influenza (flu) season beginning in November, San Franciscans, including SFUSD families and students, are encouraged to get the flu vaccine. The start of the flu season will overlap with COVID-19 this year.

During the holiday season, viruses such as influenza can easily spread due to increased contact. SFUSD families and students can prepare and prevent the spread of both COVID-19 and influenza by getting vaccinating against both.

Is it safe to get the flu vaccine and COVID-19 vaccine at the same time?

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), you can get the COVID-19 vaccine and the flu vaccine at the same time.

Where can I get the flu shot (updated November 17, 2021)?

Every eligible family member can access vaccines at free or reduced cost:

Flu shots are available at provider offices, clinics, and pharmacies. Check first with your doctor’s office or primary care clinic which is often the best and least expensive place to get vaccinated.

SFDPH and other Community Clinics also offer free or low cost flu vaccines to the public at the following locations:

  • AITC Immunization and Travel Clinic has flu vaccines available to the public, many for free or at low-cost. Check the AITC website or call (415) 554-2625 for hours and availability. Appointments required.
  • San Francisco Health Network clinics offer free or low cost flu vaccines to San Francisco residents, please call (415) 682-1740 for information on current locations and availability. Appointments may be required.
  • San Francisco Free Clinic offers free flu vaccines to uninsured San Francisco residents. Please call (415) 750-9894 for more information. Appointments required.

Flu vaccines are also available at the SFUSD Vaccination Clinics:

The flu vaccine is no longer available at McCoppin Elementary School or Sunset Elementary School vaccination clinics.

When should I plan on getting the flu vaccine?

It takes about two weeks after vaccination for the body to build immunity against flu, so now is the time to get vaccinated to maximize protection during the flu season.
