Announcement Message

Sent Sept. 26, 2023

Dear SFUSD Community,

I am writing to provide an update about the District’s Resource Alignment Plan, which was shared initially at an SF Board of Education Special Meeting on Aug. 29, 2023.

We remain committed to aligning the district's resources and operations with our adopted Vision, Values, Goals, and Guardrails. We recognize that in order to improve student outcomes, we must be able to attract and retain qualified and caring educators and staff, provide safe and welcoming learning environments for our students, and deliver programs and services that can help our students be successful and thrive.

SFUSD is committed to ensuring we are engaging in meaningful consultation with the SFUSD community through an inclusive process so that your voices are honored and respected. We will be providing the following community engagement opportunities in an ongoing manner:

  • A lead committee that represents various constituents and develops recommendations with staff about major decisions (e.g. a District Advisory Committee )
  • Direct engagement with labor partners, particularly when the decision is subject to bargaining
  • Engagement with schools through School Site Councils, school teams, or other forums
  • Broader opportunities for families, staff, and community members to share their perspectives on a decision (e.g. through surveys, town halls, or other forums)
  • Connections with specific constituents based on the decision topic (e.g. City and County of San Francisco or Community Based Organizations)

The district is launching a District Advisory Committee (DAC) to deliberate and provide public feedback on resource alignment strategies. Please review the following information about how you can be involved in the District Advisory Committee, including the eligibility criteria and application process.

Who will be the members of the DAC?

The DAC will consist of 11 members that represent the diversity of the district’s community, including parents/guardians, students, teachers, administrators, community organization partners to SFUSD, labor partners, land use experts, business community members, and neighborhood association or other affiliations representing landowners and/or renter interests.
Meetings will be held in person, at least monthly. All meetings will follow the Brown Act, which means they will be open to the public with materials publicly available. Participants’ personal contact information will be confidential.

How to Apply?

If you are interested in applying to serve on the DAC, please fill out this application. The deadline to apply is Oct. 10, 2023 at 12:00 p.m.

Help us spread the word: Share this flier with community members who may be interested in applying to serve on the DAC.

The district will convene an Appointments Committee to review applications and recommend them to the Board of Education. The committee will consist of SF Board of Education leadership, Superintendent Dr. Matt Wayne, and up to two additional Commissioners to be chosen by the Board President. (Per Board Policy 9140, “the President may appoint any Board member to serve as the Board’s representative on a District committee.”)
