JCYC Upward Bound is a federally funded TRIO program that provides fundamental support to students in their preparation for college entrance. All JCYC UB students are from either low- income families or potential first generation college students. While in Upward Bound, students will get a variety of student support services including but not limited to 1-on-1 academic advising, educational workshops, tutoring, mentoring, and college campus field trips. Lastly, all services provided are free to students!

The College Access Team is a division of SFUSD’s College & Career Readiness team. College ambassadors aim to increase college access, matriculation & success for SFUSD’s underserved students. Balboa College Ambassadors are current college students focused on direct student support with the college application process. We directly support students with college applications, exploring different college/post-high school options, financial aid applications, and scholarships. We also collaborate with families about college decisions and support students in anything college/postsecondary access-related.

JCYC ETS is a community-based Educational Talent Search program funded by the U.S. Dept of Education since 1979. Our purpose is to identify, select, and assist low-income youth ages 11 and older who have the potential to be the first generation in their family to continue in and graduate from high school and enroll in a 4-year college. Although our target students are low-income and first-generation, we strive and are open to helping all students of Balboa High School. We help students with the following and more:

• College Campus Tours 
• Free Fee Waivers (UC, SAT, & ACT)
• College Application Assistance 
• One-on-one Academic / college advising
• Personal Statement & Writing Workshop
• Cash For College Workshops

SF STEM ACADEMY is a JCYC workforce development program that prepares high school youth to pursue a degree and future career in a STEM field. The program includes after-school enrichment centered around various hands-on STEM activities such as computer science, environmental sciences, and biology. There are monthly field trips to local San Francisco sites to observe and learn about different STEM industries.

The program provides bi-weekly pay for 4 hours weekly during the school year, and bi-weekly pay for 20 hours/week during the summertime. Space is limited to only 20 students qualified students.
