What is Time Reporting?

Time Reporting documents that employees paid with restricted funds are performing duties that directly support the purpose and requirements of those funds.

Time reporting is required for all employees whose salaries and wages are paid, in part or in full, from restricted federal or state categorical resources.

Employees required to complete Time Reporting can be categorized in one of two ways based upon how they are funded:

Single-funded Employees: Employees whose salary and wages are paid 100% from a restricted federal or state categorical resource.

Multi-funded Employees: Employees whose salary and wages are paid from multiple resources, including at least one restricted federal or state categorical resource.

Single-Cost Objective: Employees paid from multiple funding sources, including at least one restricted federal or state fund, certify that they worked 100% on an approved single cost objective. This means their work supports one program or purpose, even if their salary is paid by multiple funding sources.

Who determines which employees require Time Reporting documentation?

The State & Federal Programs Department and other departments will identify employees who need to complete Time Reporting. Departments that use restricted federal or state funds for salaries will also coordinate the collection of required documentation.
